07/07 AND THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN

I love the sound of jack-hammers in the morning.

These lovely bathrooms - delightful as they were - had to be demolished. Sniff, sniff.

They were part of an addition built in the 60's and their cement block walls were load bearing. I was able to take down the interior separations and re-locate the plumbing - but had to work within the existing footprint. It will make for a nice guest bath.

The Project

I saved the church and the church saved me. This wonderful renovation project began in August '06 with an attempted act of terrorism. I was to return to So. California from Wisconsin on the day that crazed people with explosives in their shampoo bottles were busted in London and the whole world stood still. I took the option of re-booking my flight a week later and set out to find an interesting place to make my new home. I drove to the country to see a lovely Victorian farmhouse and passed an old church with a simple "For Sale" sign - and the rest is history. Actually, it wasn't all that simple. My offer was accepted in September the same week I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone insisted I cancel the offer....I was too sick - there was too much to do - the job was too big - I had to stay in California - blahblahblah. I told them it would give me something else to think about - a reason to get up every morning - it would save my life.

And it did.
