06/08 A PUBLIC HANGING

I have to accept that I cannot hang all the doors and remaining drywall myself and I bring in the big boys. However - I did tile the floors!!

This closet is in the bedroom in the lower-level guest suite. Because natural light is limited I chose to use this closet as a room divider rather than put up walls.

All of the lower level and the main floor guest suite is finished with drywall, texture and paint.

Guest suite has original windows which also need to be painted and trimmed.

The Project

I saved the church and the church saved me. This wonderful renovation project began in August '06 with an attempted act of terrorism. I was to return to So. California from Wisconsin on the day that crazed people with explosives in their shampoo bottles were busted in London and the whole world stood still. I took the option of re-booking my flight a week later and set out to find an interesting place to make my new home. I drove to the country to see a lovely Victorian farmhouse and passed an old church with a simple "For Sale" sign - and the rest is history. Actually, it wasn't all that simple. My offer was accepted in September the same week I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone insisted I cancel the offer....I was too sick - there was too much to do - the job was too big - I had to stay in California - blahblahblah. I told them it would give me something else to think about - a reason to get up every morning - it would save my life.

And it did.
